SASA MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION

To apply for SASA membership, you first need to identify which branch you belong to based on your geographical location. If you are not located in South Africa, you will need to select the Non-South African Practitioners’ Branch (7th option).

The SASA branches are:

  1. Acacia Branch: encompassing Gauteng North, Limpopo, Mpumalanga and parts of the North-West Province
  2. Central Branch: encompassing the Free State and Northern Cape Province
  3. Eastern Cape Branch: encompassing the Eastern Cape Province
  4. Gauteng Branch: encompassing Johannesburg, Southern Gauteng and Southern North-West Province
  5. KwaZulu-Natal Branch: encompassing the KwaZulu-Natal Province
  6. Western Cape Branch: encompassing the Western Cape Province
  7. Non-South African Practitioners’ Branch: encompassing any location outside South African borders

Once you have identified your relevant branch, proceed to select the appropriate membership category based on your area of practice and sector.

The SASA Membership Categories are:

  • Full Membership: For Specialists in Anaesthesiology.
  • Trainee Membership: For registered medical practitioners who occupy a registrar post in Anaesthesiology recognised by the HPCSA. Career Medical Officers are not eligible and should apply for Associate Membership.
  • Associate Membership: For qualified medical practitioners registered with their national healthcare regulator (in South Africa, the Southern African Development Community, or internationally) who have an interest in the practice, teaching, or research of Anaesthesiology, and who are not eligible for Full or Trainee Membership.
  • Nurse Membership: For registered Nurses involved in the practice of Anaesthesia.
  • Healthcare Affiliate Membership: For any Healthcare Professional registered with the HPCSA who does not fall within the above categories (e.g., Dentists).

Lastly, once you are a SASA member you can join as many Special Interest Groups (SIGs) as you like (this is optional).
